The Keep Approx 50 Metres East Of Golden Manor

The Keep, located approximately 50 metres east of Golden Manor, is a small house that may have originally served as a gatehouse to Golden Manor, dating from the 16th century. The building is constructed of brick with granite quoins and dressings, featuring tile hanging, a tiled roof, and a brick chimney. It has a rectangular Tudor design with a 19th-century wing.

The house is two storeys tall with irregular openings. The entrance is situated in the wing on the right side of the east wall, accompanied by a window to the left. The rendered first floor includes a two-light casement window with horizontal panes. The east gable wall of the 16th-century section has been rebuilt on the left and features reused 16th-century arched windows in the return south wall. To the right, there is a blocked granite doorframe with a four-centred arch and a hoodmould, which has been converted into a window. The 16th-century brick diaper work above this feature is extremely rare, if not unique in Cornwall.

On the left, there are six-paned two-light casements, and above them, the gable displays patterned 19th-century tile hanging with a fishscale frieze and diamond pattern. The north wall, also from the 16th century, has a two-light mullion window in the centre, flanked by smaller blocked arched openings. The west wall is predominantly 16th century as well. Inside, the property features a slate floor, a 19th-century Cornish cast iron range, and three four-centred, chamfered arched brick features.
