Description
The disused bridge at Two Bridges is a road bridge that spans Penpont Water, a tributary of the River Inny, and crosses the flood plain to the north. It likely dates from the 18th century and was partially rebuilt in the 19th century. The structure is made of stone rubble with granite dressings. The bridge features a 19th-century dressed granite rounded arch with a flat string band above it. The stone rubble parapets are topped with granite coping and are splayed over the abutments, which end in granite piers with domed caps. The bridge extends over the flood plain to the north and can also be accessed from the field to the east via a ramp that leads up to the bridge's road surface.
This bridge is situated near the point where Penpont Water meets the River Inny and likely originally extended northward to cross the River Inny. However, due to the widening and rerouting of the A30 and the construction of two 20th-century bridges over the rivers, this bridge is no longer used for traffic. Currently, it serves as a depot for road surfacing material for Cornwall County Council.
