Description
St Cadix is a house built around 1710, with a later mid-19th century outshut at the rear and further extensions made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of rubble stone and features a slurried scantle slate roof with hipped ends. There are brick stacks on the north slope at the rear. Originally, the house had two rooms with a cross passage, which has been blocked by a staircase in a projecting wing at the rear. A kitchen was added in a lean-to wing on the west side, and a dairy is located in the outshut on the northeast. A projecting wing was also added on the northwest side.
The house is two storeys high and has a symmetrical five-window front. The ground floor features a rubble gabled porch with a slate roof and a 20th-century glazed door with glazing bars. This porch is flanked by four 16-pane sash windows under cut stone arches, with five 16-pane sashes above, all having exposed sash boxes, although most are replica replacements. On the left-hand end, there is a lean-to with a 16-pane sash window under a rendered lintel.
Inside, there are moulded doorcases and an 18th-century two-panelled door with HL hinges. A corner cupboard from the 18th century can be found on the ground floor, along with a contemporary oak staircase featuring a closed string, square newels, turned balusters, and a slightly moulded heavy rail. In the garden, there are remains of dressed stone, tracery, column bases, and mullions, which may be remnants from the Cluniac Priory that was dissolved in 1536 and likely located to the north of St Cadix.
