Description
Town Farm Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the early to mid 18th century and has been extended at an early date, with some slight alterations. The building is constructed of Killas rubble that is brought to courses, featuring large granite quoins and remnants of whitewash. It has a slurried slate roof with brick chimneys.
The farmhouse has a rectangular plan consisting of three and a half units. The original structure is a two-unit house with an integral stable on the left, while a fourth unit was added to the right-hand end. The building is two storeys high and has three and a half bays. The doorway is located between the second and third bays and has a quoined surround with a rectangular lintel. To the left of the doorway is a two-light casement, and to the right is a 12-pane sash window, with two similar windows above on the first floor. The stable on the left features a horizontally-hinged casement at ground floor and a square loading door above, along with a loft door on its gable wall that has remains of steps below. The right-hand addition has a wide blocked doorway with a rectangular lintel next to the quoined junction and a sashed window on each floor, similar to the others.
There is a small chimney at the junction of the roof, which was originally the gable, and another at the gable of the addition. The rear of the building includes a small two-light casement on the first floor and a two-light casement at ground floor of the addition. The interior has not been inspected but may contain features of interest.
