Goonhavern Methodist Church, With Forecourt Walls Gate And Adjoining Schoolroom

Goonhavern Methodist Church, along with its forecourt walls, gate, and adjoining schoolroom, is a Nonconformist chapel built in the late 19th century, with the schoolroom dating from the early 19th century. The building features walls made of killas rubble with brick dressings and an asbestos slate roof topped with a pedimented gable at the entrance front.

The chapel has a rectangular aisle-less plan, likely with galleries on three sides. The schoolroom is attached at the rear, and there is a small room at the far back that was probably a former vestry, now used as a funeral directors. The schoolroom may have originally served as the chapel.

The exterior remains unaltered, showcasing two-storey elevations for the chapel and a single-storey schoolroom. The symmetrical entrance front on the southwest has three windows and a central round-arched doorway. It features plinth impost strings that continue as a hoodmould over the first-floor windows, a cogged upper cornice leading to a triangular pediment, and a stepped lower cornice. The round-headed window openings contain original doors and windows, including a traceried tympanum above a pair of V-jointed, boarded doors and horned sashes with glazing bars and fanlight heads, with three similar windows on each side wall. The schoolroom has a three-window front on the northwest with a doorway on the left, featuring original elements like a four-panel door and 16-pane hornless sashes. The roadside has cement-coped rubble walls adjoining the left-hand side of the entrance front, along with original braced iron gates.

Inside, the unaltered interior includes a gallery with a panelled front, moulded plaster ceiling cornices, and an elaborate central ceiling rose adorned with acanthus detail.
