Description
Two cottages, possibly with origins dating to the 17th century, were remodelled in the 19th and 20th centuries. They are built of rendered and painted stone rubble, with a rag slate roof and gable ends. Brick end stacks and a projecting stone rubble rear lateral stack are also present. The original layout is unclear due to inaccessibility at the time of survey in 1986. Number 1, on the left, has a two-room plan; the entrance is to the right of centre, with a large, heated room to the left and a smaller, unheated room to the right. Number 2, to the right, also has a two-room plan, with an entrance near the centre, the left room heated by a projecting rear lateral stack, and the right room heated by an end stack. The front wall of Number 2 on the right is set forward, with two straight joints either side of the entrance. It is possible the cottages were originally a single house of three-room plan, likely divided in the 19th century. The front has an asymmetrical four-window appearance. Number 1 has a three-light casement and a one-light casement flanking a 20th-century part-glazed door. There are two early 20th-century two-light casements on the first floor. Number 2 is slightly forward, with a four-pane window on the left and a six-pane sash on the right, flanking a 20th-century plank door. Two two-light casements are on the first floor. The interior was not accessible.
