Description

Ivy Cottage is a house dating to the early 19th century, with an extension added around the middle of the 19th century. It is built of rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, with a rag slate roof and gable ends. The house has brick end stacks on the left and right, and a brick axial stack incorporated when it was extended. Originally built with a two-room and cross-passage plan, the left-hand range comprises the earlier part of the house. In the mid-19th century, the house was extended to the right with a single-room addition. The original entrance was blocked, and a new entrance and cross passage were incorporated into the extension. A service outshot was added across the rear in the early to mid-19th century. The front has a regular three-window arrangement, with four early 19th-century casement windows and three 20th-century two-light casements. The ground floor has three casements to the left of a plank door, one to the right, and one in the earlier blocked entrance. There are three casements on the first floor. Inside, slate flag floors and partitions remain. Two fireplaces have 20th-century grates, while the third, in the kitchen, has a brick segmental arch.
