Description
The Smithy is a blacksmith's shop dating from around the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and cob, topped with a rag slate roof that features gable ends and an integral rear outshot with a catslide roof. There is a brick stack located on the left-hand gable end. The building has a double depth plan, likely consisting of one large rectangular room with an entrance in the right-hand gable end and a forge opposite, heated by the stack on the left-hand gable end. The asymmetrical front elevation includes a 19th-century casement window with lapped glass, and the entrance features a 19th-century plank door. The rear outshot has double plank garage doors. Although the interior is not accessible, The Smithy continues to be used by the local blacksmith.
