Description
This farmhouse, located 20 meters northwest of Rothay Cottage, likely has origins from the 17th century and was remodeled in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, topped with a rag slate roof featuring gable ends. The building has brick stacks for both the axial and end chimneys. The house is set on a slope, with the ground rising to the right. The original layout is uncertain, but it may consist of a remodeled three-room and through passage plan. The entrance is situated to the left of center, with a lower end on the left heated by an end stack, a hall heated by an axial stack backing onto the passage, and an unheated inner room on the right. There is a shallow projection at the front of the hall that may serve as a hall bay, along with a 19th-century service wing at the rear of the hall and a 19th-century outshut at the back of the lower end.
The exterior features two storeys and has an asymmetrical five-window front with nearly complete 19th-century fenestration. The roof above the hall and inner room has been raised. There is a 19th-century panelled door to the left of center, accompanied by a 20th-century glazed porch. To the left, there is a 19th-century 16-pane sash window, and to the right, a 19th-century two-light casement. The ground floor of the hall bay includes a 20th-century 16-pane sash, with a probable dairy window beyond to the right. On the first floor, there is a 19th-century one-light window above the entrance, a 19th-century 16-pane sash to the left, and a 19th-century two-light casement to the right. The gable end of the hall bay features a 20th-century 16-pane sash, with 19th-century two-light casements further to the right. The interior is not accessible.
