Description

Wesley Chapel and the attached schoolroom is a non-conformist chapel built in 1840, as indicated by the datestone in the central niche of the pediment. The front features thin courses of granite ashlar with a dressed granite plinth, a first-floor sill string, voussoirs, and a pediment frame, while the rest is constructed of rubble with granite dressings and asbestos slate hanging on the rear wall of the schoolroom. The roofs are covered with asbestos slate, hipped over the schoolroom. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a rectangular chapel at the front and an aisleless layout. The chapel has two storey elevations, while the schoolroom is single-storey over a basement. The chapel's symmetrical front has two windows and includes single-storey 20th-century extensions on both sides of the central doorway. The round-arched windows feature Y tracery, and the elliptically-arched doorway is adorned with a pair of chamfered late 19th-century four-panel doors and a Y-traceried fanlight. To the right of the doorway, there is a four-pane window. The rear of the building has a three-window range with three central stepped lights, all of which are round-arched with Y-traceried windows. The interior has not been inspected.
