Description

Torleven Farmhouse is a 1818-built farmhouse located on Wellington Road, Porthleven. It is constructed from roughly coursed granite rubble with granite dressings and has an asbestos slate roof with brick end stacks. The building has a symmetrical three-window facade and is two storeys high. The windows are late 19th century or 20th century horned sashes; the first floor windows retain four panes, while the ground floor windows have glazing bars. A mid-20th century top-glazed door is centrally positioned. A lean-to addition on the left-hand side retains an original horizontal-sliding sash window with glazing bars. The rear elevation incorporates a lancet stair window with a Y-traceried head. Internally, many original features remain, including six-panel doors with fielded panels, a moulded ceiling band in the entrance hall, a moulded plaster arch between the entrance and stair hall, and an open string staircase with carved brackets and a ramped handrail that scrolls over the newel. Panelled window shutters and cupboard doors are found in a rear right-hand room, with punched decoration to the metal top panels.
