Description

Three adjoining cottages, likely dating from the 18th century. They are built of painted rubble and cob, with varying roof finishes. The left-hand cottage (number 4) has a steep corrugated asbestos roof, which was formerly thatched. Wheat reed thatch covers the front roof of cottages 2 and 3, while the rear of number 1 has a grouted scantle slate roof and the rear of number 3 features asbestos slate. A brick chimney is outbuilt at the left-hand gable end.

The layout of number 4 is based on a single-room plan with a small entrance lobby to the right and a possible stair projection at the rear left. Cottages 2 and 3 were originally a pair of single-room cottages; they have a shared entrance in the middle and a 19th-century extension at the rear under parallel roofs.

The cottages present a three-window front with ground and first-floor windows on one side and a doorway on the other. Old ledged doors are found at numbers 3 and 4, and a circa late 19th-century six-panel door is at number 2. Windows are mainly circa late 19th-century four-pane horned sashes, with a probable older twelve-pane two-light casement on the ground floor to the left and 20th-century replacement windows on the rebuilt front of number 2. The interiors have not been inspected.
