Description

PILLATON SX 46 SW 6/175 Service buildings attached to north of Pentillie Castle GV II Service buildings attached to the north side of Pentillie Castle. Late C18 and early C19, with some later alterations. Slatestone rubble with brick dressings. Slate roofs, hipped, with lead rolls to hips and ridge. Plan: Irregular range of service buildings at the north side of Pentillie Castle; these include a wing to left, of 2 storeys; an external stair with lower access to the cellars under the main house; a 2-storey wing with pyramidal roof, and a single storey range to end right set at higher ground level with retaining wall on the north side. Exterior: The wing to left has hipped roof, at end has double doors, and a smaller double door on the inner side. The external granite stair leads to a platform with door and C20 6-pane sash; below the platform a round-arched doorway with brick head, over the cellar door. The 2-storey wing with pyramidal roof has door with brick relieving arch on the outer side, 3-light wooden mullion and transom window above with flat brick arch. Diagonal buttress to right, and the right side has similar window at first floor. The retaining wall to end right has arched doorway to the cellar and external stack; the wall continues to right enclosing a swimming pool. Interior: Not inspected.
