Description

The Friaries is a town house built around 1820 to 1840. It is constructed of incised stucco with a plinth and a band halfway up the facade. The roof is covered in rag slate with projecting eaves above an entablature decorated with console brackets, and it has brick end stacks. A cast-iron ogee gutter runs along the top. The house has a double-depth plan and a symmetrical 4-window facade, two stories high plus an attic. The windows are original 12-pane hornless sash windows. The central doorway is tripartite, featuring a spoked fanlight, a glazed and panelled door, and 6-pane sidelights. A wide porch with four Tuscan columns supports a moulded entablature. The side walls retain original sash windows. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
