Description
Lamorran dovecote is a late 17th century or early 18th century structure, located approximately 80 meters west of Lamorran Glebe Farmhouse.
This dovecote, also known as a culverhouse, is built from slate-stone rubble and timber and is situated on a sloping site near a track that runs alongside a tributary of the River Fal. This tributary was dammed in the 19th century to create fishponds as part of the landscaping for the Tregothnan estate. The dovecote is circular, measuring about 11 feet (3 meters) in diameter, and features a domed roof with a thickened wall on the downhill side. Inside, there are around 300 nest holes, some of which have narrow slate cills.
The entrance doorway is located on the south-east side and has a timber frame and lintel, although there is no door. Above the internal side of the entrance is a larger lintel made from a tree-branch. The roof is partially covered with corrugated iron sheets, which have collapsed into the interior of the dovecote. The internal walls are partially lime-rendered.
