Description
Nancarrow is a model home farm for a great estate, built around 1855. It features slate rubble construction with granite quoins and dressings, and slate roofs, although some have been replaced with corrugated aluminium sheeting. The farm consists of four separate blocks, with the granary located to the north. The central block is slightly higher and set forward, likely used for housing heavy horses. On either side, there are five-bay implement sheds with segmental arches, which are also covered by aluminium sheeting to accommodate an enlarged granary.
There are two central cowhouses, each with three parallel roofs that are gabled at the ends, and the central gable features a tall pointed arch. The south range is lower, and its original use is not known. Most openings have dressed segmental arches, contributing to the striking visual effect of the gables along the sides and down the central corridor. Nancarrow is a well-preserved example of an estate model farm. The Dutch barn immediately to the north is not of special interest.
