Description
Nos 13 and 14 Churchtown are a terrace of three estate cottages, likely rebuilt in the mid 19th century. They are constructed from shale rubble with granite quoins and dressings, topped by a gabled asbestos slate roof featuring diagonally set brick chimneys. Each cottage has a two-room layout and stands two storeys high. The north front has seven windows and consists of an identical pair of cottages on the left and middle, each with a central entrance. They feature two-light wooden casements with eight panes each, and cambered wooden lintels on the ground floor, along with gabled dormers above. The wide verge and eaves are consistent throughout. The gable of no. 13 on the right is larger and slightly projecting, with a partly blocked four-centred arched door that has been converted into a window, and a three-light wooden casement above, also with eight panes and a chamfered wooden lintel, topped with a finial and pendant at the apex. The ground floor of this cottage has been converted for domestic use and was originally the smithy. The cottages are included for their group value.
