Description

Nos. 16 and 17, St Michael Penkivel are cottages that probably date from the 18th century. They are constructed of painted slatestone rubble and rendered cob, featuring steep pitched Delabole slate roofs that were likely originally thatched, along with gable stone and brick chimneys. Each cottage has a two-room plan and stands two storeys high. The left cottage, No. 17, has a three-window front with a central door and 12-pane, two-light wooden casements. There is a buttress between the cottages. The right cottage, No. 16, has a five-window front with a door slightly off centre to the right and two-light wooden casements with glazing bars. There is one ground floor window to the left of the door and two windows to the right. No. 17 is set slightly higher than No. 16, and the roofs are also at different levels. The interiors have not been inspected. This was at some time a public house. The cottages are included for their group value.
