Description
Carne Vean is a house that was originally two separate dwellings, built around the late 18th century. It features painted rubble and cob walls, slate sills, and wooden lintels, topped with a thatched roof. There is a 20th-century lean-to at the rear with a low pitch and rendered chimneys over the gable ends. The original layout included a larger kitchen on the left and a parlour on the right, with an entrance passage between them, while the adjoining cottage had its entrance passage on the left. The building has been remodeled and extended in the 20th century, now presenting a regular three-window south front with doorways positioned between the windows. The doors are partly glazed and the windows are 20th-century 12-pane casements. Although there have been some alterations, Carne Vean remains an important part of a well-preserved group of houses at the head of Gillan Creek.
