Description

Pengersick Farmhouse was first built in 1809, incorporating stone from the boundary walls of Pengersick Castle. It was remodelled in granite in 1876. The farmhouse is constructed of granite rubble with granite quoins and dressings. It has scantle slate roofs, with gable brick chimneys on external rubble stacks to the right (east) and the north wing.

The original layout comprised two rooms and a cross passage, with stairs at the back of the passage and a rear wing extending off-centre to the right, forming an unequal 'T' shape. A further outshut is located to the left rear. The original kitchen/living room was situated on the right of the passage, while the wing contained an unheated service room, followed by a back kitchen with a fireplace. A later lean-to was added to the right-hand rear angle. Photographic evidence indicates that, prior to the 1876 remodelling, the building was constructed of cob with a thatched roof, had sliding sash windows, glazing bars, and a large, low granite stack on the right, along with a rear wing. The 1876 alterations included raising the roof, refacing the exterior, adding casing, and replacing the windows. The wing stack may be semi-circular in plan, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century.

The two-storey, symmetrical front has three windows and a central entrance. The fine four-centred moulded granite door frame, with bar stops and frond spandrels, was reused from the porch of Pengersick Castle; the label stops have been reversed. The windows are mid-19th century, sixteen-pane, hornless sash windows; hornless sash windows are also present on the wing.

The interior largely features late 19th-century details. The first floor and roof structure have not been inspected. The farmhouse has been little altered since the 19th century. It is situated near the castle and incorporates what was its principal doorway.
