Description

MAWGAN-IN-PYDAR ST MAWGAN SW 86 NE 1/340 Hall about 30 metres south of - Lanherne Carmelite Convent GV II

Hall, probably originally a farm building. Probably C17 origin, altered circa mid C19 with some C20 alterations and additions. Slatestone and granite rubble with stone and brick dressings. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Plan: The building is a single room, with entrance at the front and gable end to right and left. The building is built into the bank at the right end, with a small C20 addition at the right end. Possibly originally a barn. Unheated. Exterior: Single storey; at the front there are 3 large late C19 2-light 4-pane casements. Second from right a C19 plank door with 4-centred arch and brick surround. There has been rebuilding in the front wall, with former door openings visible. At the left end there is a blocked opening at the lower level with timber lintel remaining. At the upper level there is a C19 2-light stone window with cusped lights and timber lintel. Breather above. At the right end there is a small single storey C20 lean-to; above there is a blocked opening and breather. Rear blind. Interior: The walls are plastered and the roof ceiled below the level of the roof trusses.
