Description
East Castick is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 17th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and rendered, topped with a rag slate roof featuring gable ends. The building has rendered stone rubble end stacks on both the left and right sides. The layout consists of two rooms with a cross or through passage plan, heated by the end stacks. A 19th-century staircase has been added in the passage, and the house was extended to the rear in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The exterior is two storeys high and features an almost symmetrical front with three windows. There is a 20th-century porch with a glazed door and a lean-to roof, flanked by two 20th-century three-light casements. On the first floor, there are three probably 19th-century two-light casements.
Inside, the farmhouse has heavy chamfered crossbeams with straight cut stops and unmoulded morticed floor-joists. The fireplaces have 20th-century grates. The roof, dating from the mid to late 17th century, has principals that are halved, lap-jointed, and pegged at the apices and collars, which are also halved, lap-jointed, and pegged onto the face of the principals.
