Description
Manor House is a house that possibly dates from the late 16th century. It is constructed of slate stone rubble and features a rag Delabole slate roof on the left and a lower Spanish slate roof on the right, both with gable ends. There is a stone rubble axial stack on the left where the house adjoins a later cottage, an axial stone rubble stack between the two ranges, and a stone rubble stack on the right-hand gable end.
The plan of the house has been significantly altered due to 19th and 20th-century remodelling, making the original arrangement uncertain. The left-hand range may be earlier and originally consisted of a two-room layout with a central cross or through passage, indicated by a blocked opening on the front. A turreted stair in a projection at the rear of the probable right-hand room suggests access to the chamber above this range, implying that if the right-hand range is an extension, it is likely from the early 17th century. Alternatively, if the right-hand range is contemporary, the original plan may have been a three-room layout with a cross or through passage, where the right-hand inner room would have been considerably larger than the hall. Around the 19th century, the earlier entrance was partly blocked, and a lobby entrance was likely added.
The house is two storeys tall with an asymmetrical three-window front. The masonry in the left-hand range has been rebuilt above the ground floor, likely when the eaves were raised, and there is a straight joint between the right and left-hand ranges directly above the entrances. On the ground floor, there are two 20th-century PVC windows with dressed stone segmental arches, with the second window located in a blocked door opening. A circa 19th-century stone rubble porch with a gabled roof and a 20th-century PVC window is situated to the right. The first floor features two 16-pane horned sash windows on the left and a 16-pane horned sash window in a half dormer with a raking roof on the right.
The interior has been remodelled, with renewed ceiling beams and altered partitions. A newel stair is located near the central axial stack, but the first floor and roof structure are not accessible.
