Description
This is a house, dating to circa 1780, which now functions as a shop with residential accommodation above. It is located on Fore Street, Lostwithiel. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble with a 2-span slate roof featuring gable ends and brick stacks at the front and rear right. The original layout comprised a double depth plan, initially featuring a central entrance leading to a passage, with principal rooms to the front right and left. A doorway on the right gives access to an upper passage. The ground floor principal rooms were converted into a shop in the mid-19th century. A stairwell is located to the rear.
The building is three storeys high. The ground floor has a continuous fascia over a 20th-century door with overlight to the right and a shop front to the left, featuring plate-glass and a recessed doorway with a glazed door off-centre. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows to the right and left, with a blocked window in the centre. The second floor has three 12-pane sashes. A moulded eaves cornice is supported by brackets. The right side of the building features a chamfered wall.
Inside, the first floor contains two principal front rooms, linked by panelled double doors. Slate chimneypieces are present. The rear stairwell has an open well staircase with stick balusters and columnar newel posts. The second floor retains wooden chimneypieces.
