Description
No. 34 on Fore Street is a house with a shop on the ground floor, dating from around 1780, with 19th and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends and a brick stack on the right side. It has a double depth plan, with the shop located on the left side of the former principal room. The entrance is on the right, leading to a passage that has a stairwell at the rear right, while a service room at the rear left is now part of the shop.
The building has three storeys and two windows. The ground floor features a paired shop front from the 20th century, with a half-glazed door set off-centre to the right and an overlight, along with a fascia board across the front. To the right, there is a 20th-century six-panelled door with an overlight. The first and second floors have 12-pane sash windows, and wooden brackets support the eaves.
Inside, the entrance passage has a round arch at the rear, supported by consoles, leading to the stairwell. The open well stair features stick balusters and columnar newels. On the first floor, there are two rooms at the front and one at the rear. The front left room has a slate chimneypiece with pilasters and a plain mantel. The rear room and stairwell are lit by a 12-pane sash window.
