Description

The Old Inn is an 18th-century public house, extended in the 19th century. It is constructed of painted rubble with hipped scantle slate roofs, and brick chimneys are located at both ends and over the cross wall dividing the original 18th-century structure from the 19th-century addition. The original plan likely consisted of two rooms with a central cross passage and stair hall. Around the late 18th or early 19th century, a rear outshut was added, containing service rooms and low chambers above. A further two-room, double-depth extension was added to the left side in the early to mid-19th century. The south front has an overall width of six windows: the symmetrical two-window 19th-century front is centered on a doorway, with a four-window 18th-century front to the right. The 18th-century front was originally symmetrical with five windows, but the openings to the right of the doorway were later remodelled to create wider window openings. 20th-century lean-to porches have been added. The first floor of the 18th-century section retains original 12-pane horned sash windows; other windows are later horned sashes. The interior was not inspected.
