Description
Bailiff's Cottage, also known as Polly's Cottage, along with the adjoining former stables and cartsheds, including Lucy's Nest, is a former bailiff's cottage built around the early to mid 19th century. The building features dressed granite and granite rubble walls with granite dressings, topped by grouted scantle slate roofs. The house has a hipped roof on the left side and a brick chimney over the gable end on the right.
The layout consists of a shallow double depth plan with a kitchen and living room at the front, an entrance lobby, and a stair on the left. To the right, there is a long rectangular range of buildings that were likely originally used as stables, tack rooms, and cartsheds. Part of this range has been converted into living accommodation, with a 20th-century extension at the rear of the house.
The exterior of the house is two storeys high, while the adjoining buildings are single storey. The house features a slightly irregular two-window front with a doorway located at the far left, which has a panelled door and original 16-pane hornless sash windows. Inside, the cottage has a simple interior that retains much of its original structure and joinery.
