Description
The Red River Bridge, located on Green Lane in Marazion, is a road bridge that spans the confluence of the Red River and a stream, featuring a parish boundary stone. It is likely from the 18th century and constructed of granite rubble, with granite voussoirs and squared granite parapet copings secured with iron cramps.
The bridge has a two-span design with a single carriageway width that widens over the abutments. It includes semi-circular refuges on either side of the carriageway, which are complemented by randomly spaced granite fenders built into the parapet. Upstream, there is a bank between the streams, while downstream features a triangular cutwater where the streams meet. Within the south-eastern refuge stands a round-headed granite boundary stone, likely from the early 19th century, marked with the letter 'M' for Marazion parish. The bridge has a hump in the middle, and its arches are pointed.
This bridge is a rare example of an unaltered 18th-century road bridge, preserved from widening due to the construction of a nearby bridge in 1837.
