Description

No 48, known as Porthgwel, is an early 19th-century building located on the south side of Back Road. It is constructed of granite with a stucco front above the ground floor and features slate hanging on the east wall. The building stands three storeys tall and has one window with sash frames that do not have glazing bars, set in moulded cases. Access to the first-floor doorway is via granite steps that are flanked by iron railings. The doorway itself is adorned with fluted pilasters and a cornice, leading to a panelled door topped by a rectangular fanlight. The roof is slate and hipped. This building is part of a group with Nos 48, 50, and 52, which share architectural significance.
