Description
Nanhellan is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of uncoursed killas stone with squared granite dressings, and the upper floor is likely made of cob with a slate-hung finish. The roof is covered with local scantle slate in a slurried style. The building has a linhay plan, featuring a central stair hall flanked by reception rooms, with a dairy and kitchen located in a narrow bay at the back. The kitchen has been extended with an additional lean-to. To the left, there is an attached byre, which now serves as a second sitting room with a loft above. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a central half-glazed four-panelled door. Both floors feature twenty-paned sash windows, with the outer panes being narrower, and the ground floor openings have brick flat arches. The slate hanging displays a lozenge pattern at the central ends of each panel.
Inside, there is a large stack in the kitchen, while the stack in the dining room has been removed, and the stair was rebuilt in the 20th century to allow entry from the rear.
