Description
The chimney of the East Wheal Rose Mine, located north of the shaft known as Silver-Land, was built in 1881. It is constructed from uncoursed killas stone and brick and stands freestanding, approximately 53 meters east of the Engine House. The chimney has a base diameter of about 90 centimeters and rises to a height of 30 meters (100 feet) to match the cylinder. At ground level, it features two opposed arched openings that are dressed with buff brick. The structure tapers as it rises, with the upper section consisting of approximately 64 courses of brick, followed by an additional 15 courses of spaced corbels, and capped with 8 battered courses at the top. There are paired putlog and drain holes in the shaft. The chimney is connected underground by arched flues that pass the boilers to the engine house.
