Description
The Custom House is an early 19th-century building located in Penzance. It is constructed of coursed granite rubble and features a slate hipped roof with wide eaves soffit. The building is set into a steeply sloping site, with the southwest elevation being one storey high and the northeast elevation rising to three storeys.
On the southwest side, there are two windows with sashes and glazing bars, along with a central doorway that has a plain granite architrave and entablature. The northeast elevation, which faces the harbour, has three windows with sashes and glazing bars. This side is partially obscured by a two-storey loft wing that has an open ground floor supported by crude granite posts, with a slate-hung upper storey featuring two-light casements and loft doors. The outside of this elevation is colour-washed rubble, with two small casements and a central door on each floor.
The Custom House, along with Nos 3 and 4, as well as the Revenue, forms a group of buildings.
