Description
Clahar Cottage is an 18th-century cottage with rubble walls, plastered cob upper walls, and a thatched roof. The walls are partly whitewashed or painted, with some blockwork repairs. The original north-west facing facade has been reoriented to face south-east. The south-east facade features a 6-pane sliding sash window to the left of a partly glazed 20th-century entrance door, and a 20th-century stable door beyond. A single-story extension, built in the 20th century with whitewashed rubble, projects from the south-east facade, with the thatched roof continuing over it. The first floor of the south-east facade has a 4-pane sash window, a 6-pane sash window, and two 20th-century casement windows (4 panes and 6 panes respectively). A north-west facing facade, facing the road, has three asymmetrical windows: a 2-pane window, a 4-pane sash window, and a 6-pane top-hung window, all dating to the 20th century. One room, located on the north-east side, is open to the roof, with the fireplace having been removed. A room on the south-west side contains a large fireplace that is now blocked. Some original 18th-century ovolo-moulded beams are visible in the ceiling of the ground floor. The roof timbers are not accessible.
