Description
The Old Inn is a public house that possibly dates back to the late 17th century, with two mid-19th century wings added to the side and rear on the southwest and northwest. The original late 17th century section is built from whitewashed stone rubble with a cob first floor and features a thatched roof with gabled ends and eyebrow eaves. There is a rendered brick stack at the gable end. The building has a two-room plan with a central cross passage that runs at right angles to the road and is two storeys high.
The front of the building has an almost symmetrical two-window arrangement. On the ground floor, there are two timber sash windows with three panes per light and horns, flanking a central 20th-century replica door. The first floor features two sashes with pointed heads and intersecting glazing bars above, also with three panes per sash and horns.
To the left, the mid-19th century stuccoed southwest wing has quoin pilasters and a hipped slate roof. This wing is three storeys tall and has one bay on the front with sashes that have two panes each. The left-hand (west) return has two bay windows with plated timber sashes on the first floor. The mid-19th century rear wing, also stuccoed, is two storeys high with a four-window front facing the road. Inside, there is a large exposed stone fireplace on the right side of the 17th century block, featuring a moulded timber lintel and a cloam oven. The roof is not accessible, and the floor beams have been renewed, with the interiors entirely restructured.
