Description

The Wesleyan Methodist Church and attached church hall were built in 1904 by Bell, Withers and Meredith. The front of the church is constructed from random granite rubble with granite dressings, while the rear is of rock-faced elvan stone rubble also with granite dressings. Both have slate roofs, partly bitumenised, with gable ends featuring raised coped verges. The church is designed in the Gothic style.

The church’s auditorium has a gable end to the front, with its ritual east. A porch is located to the front left, and a tower to the front right. The church hall is attached by a corridor to the rear right. The front gable end of the church is two storeys high, with two 2-light windows on the basement level. The upper level has a 5-light window featuring two king mullions and four-centred arches, with a hood mould. Weathered pilasters and a breather are above, alongside raised coped verges to the gable. The porch has a hipped roof with double half-glazed doors, a segmental arch, and a hood mould. The three-stage tower has set-back buttresses and an embattled parapet, with double doors to the front, segmental arches, hood moulds, and louvres. To the right side of the auditorium, there are two 2-light windows with segmental arches and buttresses. Flat-roofed dormers are present with 3-light windows. A corridor to the right connects the church to the church hall, with double doors, a segmental arch, buttresses, and a 2-light window on either side. The church hall is two storeys high with a basement, featuring a projecting block to the right that forms the porch. The ground floor has two mullion and transom windows. Above is a 4-light window with a segmental arch and hood mould. The porch block has a lower ground floor entrance with double doors, a segmental arch, and a window. At the rear, the main gable end is distinguished by a 5-light window with two king mullions, a four-centred arch with a continuous hood mould, and pilasters with chamfered granite tops that continue with the raised coped verges of the gable. A lean-to is present to the right with a door and a window, and a corridor to the left features double doors and a 7-light mullion and transom window. The gable end of the church hall has a large 5-light window with a segmental arch, hood mould, breather, and pilasters rising to the coped verge of the gable. Another lean-to is present to the left with a 9-pane light. Two flat-roofed dormers are located along the inner side of the church hall. The interior was not inspected.
