Description
The North Pier, South Pier, and Island Pier in Newquay were built in the mid to late 19th century using granite ashlar, slatestone, and granite rubble. The two main piers, located to the north and south, enclose a small harbour, while the Island Pier is situated west of the South Pier, standing freestanding within the harbour.
Both piers have square ends. The North Pier is constructed from granite ashlar and features two flights of steps on the inner side, along with a low wall on the outer side. The South Pier is larger and built from stone rubble, with later extensions in granite ashlar. It has a short circular stone tower at its end and also includes two flights of stone steps on the inner side. The South Pier tapers in height as it approaches the land.
The Island Pier is made of stone rubble with granite coping, rounded at the sea end and square-ended towards the land.
