Description
The cross located approximately 60 metres south of the Church of St Buryan is a Grade II listed structure. This is a pre-Conquest cross, with the surrounding walls dating from the early 19th century. The cross itself is a short granite wheel-headed design, set into an octagonal granite base, which rests on a square base. This is all contained within a large square walled base made of granite rubble and dressed granite, featuring some reused fragments from the 17th century or earlier. There is a sloping cobbled area situated between the outer walls and the cross base. The east face of the cross is carved with the crucifixion, while the opposite face displays a flared Latin cross. This site is also recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
