Description
The Chacewater War Memorial is located on the east edge of the path that leads from the lychgate to the tower of the church of St Paul in Chacewater. Constructed from rough-hewn granite, the memorial features a plain wheel-head cross atop a tapering shaft, which stands on a rectangular plinth raised on a shallow step. Surrounding the memorial is a square granite kerb that includes four low corner pylons connected by metal rails.
On the front face of the shaft, the main inscription reads: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THOSE WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918." The names of 30 individuals are carved into the front face of the plinth, organized by regiment, corps, and ship. Beneath the names, the inscription "HE THAT LOSETH HIS LIFE FOR MY SAKE, SHALL FIND IT" is also carved. The letters of these inscriptions are painted with black enamel.
