Description

A threshing barn, likely remodelled from a possible farmhouse. It probably originates from the Medieval or 16th century, with remnants of the original structure surviving in the ground floor of the rear wall, the right-hand end, and the lower part of the front wall. The barn was largely rebuilt in the 18th century, with further rebuilding to the left-hand end occurring in the mid-to-late 19th century.

The barn is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings, including some dressed granite fragments dating from the 17th century or earlier. It has a rag slate roof. The rectangular structure has walls approximately one metre thick, built against a bank on the right-hand side; it incorporates a threshing floor towards the right and a loading doorway from the bank at the right-hand end.

The exterior has two storeys, featuring a single window on the first floor and a ventilator on the right. The ground floor displays a doorway on the left and four irregularly placed ventilator openings. The rear elevation has two doorways, with a central doorway cut through a later addition, and a small opening to the right of the doorway, spanned by a near-round arched dressed granite fragment from the 17th century or earlier.

Inside, the old floor structure remains, along with an 18th-century roof structure consisting of pegged collar trusses, except where replaced at the right-hand end during its later rebuilding. Two upright pieces of granite are set into the rear wall towards the right, possibly representing the jambs of a former blocked fireplace.
