Kennels

The Kennels, built around the mid-19th century, is a single-storey kennel block located in Maker-with-Rame within Edgcumbe Country Park. Constructed from sandstone rubble with brick dressings, it features a slate roof with gable ends. The building has five bays and includes five open yards at the front, which are enclosed by rubble walls topped with limestone copings.

The left end bay is heated by a brick ridge stack and has a copper for boiling dog-meat. The central bay contains a plain door situated under the eaves, while the gabled bays on either side have doorways with round brick arches and scalloped bargeboards. The outer bays also have doors under the eaves.

In front of the dog runs, walls divide the space, with gateways on the left and right sides featuring plain piers. The walls ramp up to the piers at both ends and to a central pair of gate piers, all of which have pyramidal tops. The left gable end has a two-light casement window with a cambered brick head and scalloped bargeboards, while the right gable end has a similar window, although its bargeboards are missing, and it has a stepped plinth. Quoins are present on both gable ends.

At the rear, there is an integral outshut along three bays to the right, which previously had a hipped roof, with a door and two window openings still visible. A plinth runs along the rear wall.
