Description

Wakely's is a cottage that dates back to the 17th century, with remodelling from the 18th century. There is a 19th-century addition at the front and 20th-century renovations. The building is rendered and features a slatestone rubble stack at the higher gable end, topped with a slate roof. The original 17th-century range is one room deep and has a projecting gable end stack located behind a stair turret that also projects. To the front right, there is a later lean-to addition under a roof with a shallower pitch. The entrance is located on the side of this later addition. The windows are renewed casements with glazing bars, and the first-floor window at the front is situated under a raking roof that slightly projects above the eaves line. There is a small square stair light in the gable end, with stone slates peaked over the flue instead of a chimney pot. Inside, there is a wooden door surround at the entrance to the stair turret, and the fireplace features chamfered jambs and a lintel, along with a slate floor. An outbuilding at the north end serves as a stable with a loft above and is included for group value.
