Description

Bert's Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with later additions and 20th-century renovations. It is constructed of rendered slatestone and cob, with a slate roof. Originally a south-facing, one or two-cell cottage, it has a projecting stack at the east gable end, likely concealing an old stair turret behind it. The cottage was extended to the west under a lower roofline. A circa-19th century single-storey projecting wing is situated at the front, forming a T-shaped plan. An enclosed rendered porch with a sloping slate roof features an entrance in the corner between a later single-storey extension and the main cottage range. The front elevation is two storeys and has a two-window range. The ground floor window is a renewed casement with glazing bars and slate sills. The first floor has one small square light and one four-pane casement, both under a raking roof which slightly projects above the eaves. Rear windows are irregularly spaced and are renewed two-light casements. A curved wall creates a small yard in the angle.
