Description

Fry's Cottage and Fry's Farmhouse comprise a farmhouse and outbuilding, originating in the 17th and 18th centuries, with later 19th-century additions and 20th-century alterations. The construction is primarily of slatestone rubble and cob, with some rendered and whitewashed areas. The 19th-century additions use slatestone rubble with brick dressings. The roofs are slate.

The building follows an F-plan, creating a narrow rear courtyard enclosed by a south-facing range. This range is one room deep and features gable-end stacks. A barn attached to the rear west side creates an L-plan. The main range was extended eastwards and a rear east extension was added in the late 19th century, completing the F-plan layout. The 18th-century section retains symmetrical windows with 20-pane sashes, and upper-storey windows with six-pane sashes. The 19th-century extension incorporates two-light casements with brick arches. A single-storey rear projection from the 19th century features a large, moulded brick chimney. The rear of the main range, facing the courtyard, contains pigeon holes and a first-floor three-light wooden mullioned window. An outbuilding is included in the listing due to its group value. The interior has not been inspected.
