Description
Great Wheal Prosper China Clay Works is a late 19th-century china clay works constructed from granite rubble and brick. The building features a slate roof with gable ends and is a long rectangular structure that is single storey, standing on a granite plinth. It has an open front with 20th-century doors. At the west end, there is a circular chimney, approximately 4 metres in diameter at the base, made of granite rubble and tapered, with cast iron banding; the upper section is constructed from brick and includes a cornice.
To the south, there are remains of tanks with granite rubble walls about 2 metres high, with the easternmost tank still in use. A 2-storey 20th-century building is located between the eastern tanks and the drying building. Along the north side of the drying building, remnants of a railway branch line can be found, which was previously used for transporting china clay and also served the nearby Carbis Brick and Tile Works.
