Description
The terrace retaining wall, privy, and cess pit located immediately southeast of Lower Calamansack Farmhouse and Lower Calamansack Cottage are likely from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with the privy probably rebuilt around the mid-19th century. The terrace retaining wall is situated directly in front of the farmhouse and cottage, constructed from slate rubble with granite coping. There is a flight of granite steps leading down to the garden, which was formerly an orchard.
At the center of the retaining wall, there is a square integral cess-pit featuring high shale walls with granite quoins and coping, along with granite steps for access. Above and behind the cess-pit, there is a pair of red brick privies that back onto the pit and connect to it through a stone-lined shaft. The privies have an asbestos slate hipped roof topped with red clay ridge tiles. One privy is designated for Lower Calamansack Farmhouse, while the other serves Lower Calamansack Cottage. The interior of one privy was inspected and contains a 20th-century W.C.
