Description

The British Legion building, located at No. 18 Chapel Street, Penzance, dates to the 18th century. It is constructed of painted brickwork with granite quoins, featuring a modillioned eaves cornice and a single string course. The building is two storeys high with five windows. A slight projection houses the central doorway and a window, topped with a pediment. The doorway is framed by two Ionic pilasters and an entablature. To the right is a two-storey extension built of granite ashlar, with a rusticated ground floor containing double gates with fielded panels, set beneath a rusticated granite flat arch. Above this extension is a segmental bowed sashes oriel with a modillioned eaves cornice. The roof is slate and hipped. The building forms a group with Nos. 15 to 18 (inclusive) and the Methodist Church.
