Description
Gear Bridge is a road bridge that spans a stream at the head of a creek, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed from shale rubble with dressed granite voussoirs forming round arches and dressed granite hogs back copings on the parapets. The bridge features a single span, which likely had a slightly humped road surface originally, with the parapets splayed wider apart at either end. There are round arches visible both upstream and downstream. The north parapet has been partly rebuilt using the original copings. This simple yet nearly complete single span bridge is set in beautiful surroundings.
