Description

The Britannia Inn is an inn dating from the mid-18th century. It features stuccoed walls and dry Delabole slate roofs that are M-shaped with half-hipped sections and hipped roof dormers at the front. The building has large brick chimneys on the side walls and cast-iron ogee gutters. It has a double-depth plan with a central entrance hall and stands two storeys plus attics high, with a five-window range on the first floor. The façade includes raised stucco pilasters and raised stucco architraves around the central doorway, which is flanked by late 19th-century horned sash windows. There are three hipped roof dormers, also with late 19th-century horned four-pane sashes. The rear elevation is similar and features keyblocks. Inside, there is a good quality 18th-century moulded ceiling cornice with dentils in the rear right-hand room, while the upper floors have not been inspected.
