Description
House. Springbrook Cottage likely originated in the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and a 20th-century addition to the rear left. The exterior is whitewashed and plastered, with a corrugated asbestos roof. A substantial stone stack rises from the ridge, featuring a brick shaft, and there is a further chimney at the left gable end. The original plan was a single depth through passage, with a two-storey addition later added to the rear left. The front facade has three windows. The present entrance is at the rear; the original entrance, on the front left side, is now blocked and retains a slated canopy. Ground-floor windows are 19th-century 2- and 3-light casements with six panes per light. First-floor windows are 2-light casements, also with six panes per light.
Inside, the room on the left-hand side on the ground floor has a large fireplace with a chamfered fireplace beam, now hidden behind a 20th-century fireplace. The large fireplace facing the stone stack on the right also has a damaged chamfered fireplace beam concealed behind a later fireplace. The roof trusses are pegged.
