Description
Polventon is a house built in 1936 by Crowe and Careless for R.H. Stein. It is constructed with a rendered, likely concrete steel frame and is situated close to the cliff edge, offering extensive views of the sea. The entrance leads into a small lobby with a stairway that goes directly to the rear. To the left is the kitchen in the service range, while to the right and rear are two principal rooms, with the right-hand room located in a single-storey range surrounded by windows.
The building showcases the International Modern Style and has a varied height with sections of one, two, and three storeys. The single-storey range, which contains the principal room, projects forward from the two-storey main range and the three-storey service block, which includes a stair tower at the rear. The metal-framed windows of the single-storey range wrap around the curved corners on three sides. At the rear, the left corner of the main range is glazed, while the right corner features an integral verandah that looks out to sea. The first-floor windows are positioned at the corners and to the right of the center. Inside, there is simple detailing, including what is likely a renewed tiled chimney-piece.
